We now know through the science available that tamariki placed into care need to be parented in a different way to enable them to heal.
In this session, we will touch on the impact of developmental trauma (Adverse Childhood Experiences - ACEs), mistrust, developmental age, and how behaviour comes from a place of shame.
By understanding why tamariki behave in the way they do, and responding in a different therapeutic way, you'll be able to provide a safe and healing home for them, the very thing that they have missed out on in critical years of their development.
Learning Objectives:
- To gain an understanding of Developmental Trauma (ACEs) and how this impacts the child’s internal working model.
- To explore the concept of mistrust, shame, and developmental age.
- To consider therapeutic parenting and why we need to parent in a different way.
