This 4½ hour workshop will explain the legal processes, obligations and expectations that are used in New Zealand to support and protect both children in care and caregivers.

This learning opportunity is part of the National Caregiver Training Programme (NCTP) developed by Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children for all caregivers in New Zealand and is delivered by Caring Families Aotearoa.

Overview

Legal processes have been created to protect and support tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) in care. We will introduce what these processes are, explaining what obligations and expectations are associated with each process. Part 3 of the National Care Standards provides entitlements to caregivers, we will outline and explain what these entitlements are. At the workshop you will be given the opportunity to explore concepts, share experiences, reflect and take away ideas of how you can practically apply your learning to support te tamaiti (the child) or rangatahi (young person) in your care.
