This course is in two parts. Part one is an Emodule completed online in your own time. Part two is a one and a half hour practical virtual session. From the comfort of your home you can be introduced to why keeping memories/creating life story books is essential for our tamariki in care. (up to 1 hr online).

From the comfort of your home you can be introduced to why keeping memories/creating life story books is essential for our tamariki in care. (up to 1 hr online)

This will be followed up with a 1 hr practical virtual session. Where we will apply the online learning in a practical way, you are given the opportunity with photos/artifacts or bring your own to begin to create a life story book.

This workshop has been updated, to incorporate National Care Standards regulations, and a cultural lens with new activities.

Overview

This work reinforces the concept of Life Story books, why they are important and the caregiver’s role in creating them. Life Story books answers the child’s ‘what, when and why’ questions (creating a coherent narrative – Dan Siegel) about their care experiences.

  • Caregivers will understand the purpose of and be able to create a Life Story book/memory box for the tamariki
  • Children transitioning from care will have accurate information to take with them
  • Practice scripting strengths-based stories/narratives that capture experiences, relationships, memories for their time of being place in their home
