This learning opportunity is part of the National Caregiver Training Programme (NCTP) developed by Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children for all caregivers in New Zealand and is delivered by Caring Families Aotearoa.

Overview

In this session participants will look at the importance and realities of tamariki forming connections with others and their environment. The experiences both tamariki and caregivers have had affects the way they make connections. Participants will be able to learn how understanding the past of tamariki can help the tamariki make important connections into who they are. Participants will look at what might be some of the differences their previous understanding of connections have been to what they may need to reconsider for the tamariki in their care. Learning eight guiding principles for wellbeing will give participants a framework that can help create a thriving environment as well as support the development of relationship, aroha, trust, intrinsic value, cultural wellbeing, and practices that allow connections to thrive.
