This workshop explores the importance of emotional connection with children. It helps participants to understand and explore the idea of being mind-minded in parenting (being aware of their feelings, thoughts and desires as well as those of the child).

We focus on looking beneath the behaviour by understanding how previously experienced trauma impacts the tamariki (children) in your care.

We will explore the idea of parenting trauma-experienced tamariki in a way that meets their behavioural, developmental, and therapeutic needs. This helps to form a stronger connection between you and the child, creating a more trusting relationship and secure home.

Learning Objectives:

Objective 1: To gain an understanding of how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact on the child's development.

Objective 2: To gain an understanding of the 'why' behind the child's behaviour.

Objective 3: To explore ways of building emotional connections with children while also providing support for behaviour.
