When you are finding your child’s behaviour challenging, do you want to help them regulate their emotions? Would you like to build a stronger connection between you and your child and create a more trusting relationship and calmer home?

Parenting trauma-experienced tamariki (children) takes a whole set of different tools. This workshop aims to look beneath the behaviour and understand how previous traumatic experiences impact the tamariki in your care. We explore the necessity of changing our approach to parenting, and in doing so prompting a different response from us.

This module follows on from ‘What’s behind the behaviour’ – The Why.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To explore the importance of emotional connection within DDP-informed therapeutic parenting.
  2. To understand the parenting skills of being mind-minded and using PACE.
  3. To notice being open and engaged and using logical and natural consequences as a learning opportunity.
