These modules will provide either an overview or deeper knowledge in understanding the importance of te tamaiti (the child’s) or rangatahi’s (young person’s) identity and belonging.

They are part of the National Caregiver Training Programme (NCTP) developed by Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children for all caregivers in New Zealand and delivered by Caring Families Aotearoa.

We offer two learning options for this course:

1) Part A: Self-Directed e-module – 2 hours in your own home and in your own time + Part B: Virtual Facilitated Session – 2-hour facilitated virtual session with an overview

2) Face to Face workshop – 4.5-hour workshop that facilitates deeper understanding and collective learning with peers

You are registering for the 4.5-hour workshop in Hamilton.

Summary

A person’s sense of self is linked to their genealogy/whakapapa and more. We will look at the loss and grief related to the care system and its impacts on children and young people, family/whanau and caregiver families. Exploration of the Te Toka Tumoana principles of wellbeing will be discussed in helping to build, promote and encourage the identity and belonging of tamariki and rangatahi. At the facilitated workshop you will be given the opportunity to explore concepts, share experiences, reflect and take away ideas of how you can practically apply your learning to support the building of identity and belonging with tamariki or rangatahi in your care.

When we facilitate training for caregivers, this is who we include: Whānau/Kin Caregivers, Permanency Parents, Foster and Whānau/Kin Caregivers who have tamariki placed with them by an Iwi social service, Agency, or Oranga Tamariki.
